chinoiserie – a French term signifying “Chinese-esque” and refers to a European style that refects Chinese influence and imagery. Since the 17th century chinoiserie included the use of fanciful images, and the use of Chinese style porcelain, materials, finishes such as lacquer, and decoration such as fretwork.
