arthur ERICKSON architecture west van

Arthur Charles Erickson (1924-2009) – Vancouver Architect and urban planner – internationally known for his futuristic designs and commercial architecture – Monteverdi Estates in West Vancouver was one of his lesser known residential works – a series of 20 unique detached units of 2000 – 3000 sq’ on seven acres – designed to sensitively preserve the wooded areas.  Strong horizontal lines amongst the hemlocks and granite faces.  Primarily cedar siding and glass exteriors, the interiors were custom configured with the input of the homeowner.

This undercover space is below the entrance area and I love how this is just built around the existing rock face and utilized as a hot tub area.

The unit I toured through was a lower one that had several flights of stairs down to it – here is another unit that is higher and entered at the bottom – to show how each unites unique to fit the site and situated differently.  These have roof top decks.
